You can apply for your provisional license when you are 15 years and nine months old, but this is put in place so that you can learn to drive a moped when you turn 16. It does not mean that you can start learning to drive a car as soon as you receive it.
You can drive a car when you are 16 if you get, or have applied for, the enhanced rate of the mobility component of personal independence payment (PIP).
You must have a provisional licence for Great Britain or Northern Ireland when you’re learning to drive, and remember you must be supervised when you’re learning to drive a car. This can be a driving instructor or someone who meets the rules.
